Sheridan Villa been recently renovated into a 142-bed modern home for residents and Adult Day Service clients.
Indoors
Home areas
Sheridan Villa's resident home areas are spacious, bright and welcoming. Each area has its own dining room, a designated space for activities, a lounge and a terrace.
A greenhouse, spacious lobby with a café, tuck shop and numerous cozy seating areas are welcoming features of the main floor.
Gardens
A therapeutic garden on the south side of the building has raised flower and vegetable beds, a water fountain, herb garden and gazebo. It's the perfect place for residents to relax in the summer and participate in horticultural activities. Sheridan Villa's outdoor garden provides a safe environment for residents with dementia.
Sheridan Villa is home to birds and fish.
Special Behaviour Support Unit
The Special Behaviour Support Unit (SBSU) is a 19-bed unit within Sheridan Villa for clients who have a primary diagnosis of dementia with significant behaviours that cannot be managed in the client's current environment. It is a transitional treatment unit and not intended to be a resource for emergency treatment.
Resident and Family Councils
The Resident Council meets monthly to provide a forum for residents to discuss concerns and make suggestions for improvements in their quality of life within the home.
The Family Council meets on a monthly basis to bring forward questions or concerns related to resident care. It is an opportunity for family members to meet and become part of the Sheridan Villa community.
Modifying Infrastructure for HVAC Improvements at Sheridan Villa

The Ministry of Long-Term Care has approved a funding of $146,000 for infrastructure and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) improvements within Sheridan Villa. This work has commenced and will ensure that systems remain in place to further enhance the living environment and wellbeing of the people living and working in the home.
Community partnerships
Early Years Program
Sheridan Villa has developed several partnerships with local organizations. The Early Years Program operates the Parents and Tots centre on the first floor every weekday morning. Residents often visit to interact with children and participate in activities together. Local schools and entertainers also visit frequently to perform for residents at special events and celebrations.
Sheridan Villa Volunteer Auxiliary assists with many programs and raises funds for the home.
Administrator Catharine Kowalenko
Catharine Kowalenko became the interim Administrator of Sheridan Villa in May 2021. Catharine is a senior leader with broad experience in both the private sector in human resources and in the not-for-profit seniors� care sector. In the last 18 years, Catharine has held different positions in the seniors� care sector such as Senior Director, Long Term Care Outreach, Director of Employee Relations, and Chief Executive Officer for a continuum of care that included a 228-bed long-term care home.
Catharine graduated from the University of Western Ontario and from Humber College with a post-graduate diploma in Human Resources Management. She possesses a long-term care Administrator certification and a Canadian Human Resources Leadership designation.
Catharine is passionate about working in and advocating for the quality of life for seniors. She is also dedicated to supporting and developing the staff and volunteers who work collaboratively to provide quality care and services to those under their care.
